Girls’ Cricket

This term the senior team has played two matches against George Watson’s School. In an exciting finale to the first game against Watson’s in May, Dollar won the match in the last over, with every player contributing to the victory. Many of the girls were playing in their first cricket match and were able to withstand considerable pressure to make the required runs. The second match played on 11th June, was a reverse result with Watson’s claiming revenge, despite the efforts of Eilidh Mackie who took 3 wickets for 21 runs.

The Form 2 /3 team also played against Watson’s on 11th June. In a pairs game, Dollar scored 179 runs from 12 overs (Eilidh Stewart and Jenny Waters putting on 65 runs in their 3 overs) and went on to restrict Watson’s to 81 runs and claim victory.

On 5th June, the 8-a-side Scottish Cricket Tournament was moved inside as a result of the weather. The senior team enjoyed the triangular tournament played as a pairs game. The Angus District Development Team was the eventual winner after a tight final game against Dollar. A particular highlight of the morning was a coaching session with Steve Knox and Simon Smith, two Scottish Saltires players. Peter Drinnan, Technical Director of Cricket Scotland, was impressed with the standard of the cricket being played and hopes to make the tournament an annual event.

The girls are now looking forward to playing in the first House Cricket competition, which will be held on Tuesday, 28th June.
